Big News for 2015!

Hello there and Happy New Year! Thanks for stopping by. So as you probably heard, I have some pretty big news. Let me start off by saying, 2014 was a freakn   fantastic year! I learned so much and got to work with some amazing wedding vendors in the Hampton Roads area. I did my first style shoot with Amanda Truth photography, assisted Simply Grand Events with several lovely weddings, booked my first couple ever, helped Size Overrated magazine throw an awesome corporate anniversary party, participated in an Interlocked style shoot with the amazing Chelsea Lavere, got half way though my masters degree, and started a social media marketing company with my boyfriend. No wonder I'm so tired!

Any who while 2014 was crazy dope, 2015 is going to be even better. Jacquelyne Edith Events is proud to announce that it will be expanding this June to the DMV area. The military brought me to Hampton Roads and I so enjoyed the stay, but the DMV has my heart. So me and Sheila (my bike for those who don't know her name) will be packing up and heading out in June. Don't be too sad though. I will be back and forth conducting business as usual. And I will always be just a Facebook update away! Speaking of Facebook...

will be devoting more time to engage with you on social media. Each day of the week is now devoted to some aspect of the wedding. Monday is man crush Monday, where I'm highlighting grooms who really rock it out on their wedding day. Tuesday is Transformation Tuesday. Watch how ordinary venue spaces are transformed into gorgeous ceremonies and receptions. Wednesday is Wedding Crush Wednesday where I post my favorite wedding inspiration. Thursday is thrifty Thursday where you can learn how to save big on your big day. And Friday is my favorite of them all! On Friday I'm bringing you the fun: wedding dances, photo booths, crazy socks and all. If you enjoy all things weddings this is where you need to be! Whether your following on Facebook, IG, Twitter, Pinterest or subscribe to the blog, we've got you covered!

So in a nutshell, in 2015 you can expect more updates, more blog posts, new faces, and new spaces. Are you excited yet? Oh and one last thing. While we absolutely loved all the birthday parties, baby showers and other small events we did in 2014, in 2015 were focusing on a few things we do really well, corporate events and weddings. We're celebrating businesses and brides (for those who love illiteration as much as I do) ☺️

We'll be sure to keep you updated on everything! Thanks for reading. See you soon!

Shanique & Layla's Holiday House Warming

This past summer I decided to give away a free party valued at $400 to help promote my business as well as give back to those who have been so supportive of my business endeavors. I was very happy to give Shanique Cameron, a deployed veteran, a free party upon her return to the states. Because she was moving into her new home with her baby girl Layla, we decided on a Holiday House Warming party. I met up with Shanique and Layla about a week in advance to plan the small but fabulous event. If they are not the sweetest, cutest mother daughter duo??? I love working with such humble, appreciative people such as Shanique and the one and only Layla, a sweet little 19th month old with a large personality. She is a little fire cracker! Any who, I had a wonderful time putting together this party. We played a couple of festive holiday games, and the photo booth with hand made props was an absolute hit. You really had to be there! But since you were not, pics are below along with a short Holiday  Photo Booth DIY!

DIY HOLIDAY PHOTO BOOTH WITH PROPS

MATERIALS NEEDED
Large Picture Frame
Paint (Optional)
Ribbon
Ornaments
Construction Paper
Wooden Sticks
Tape
Scissors
Washi Tape

Instructions:
Step 1. First I purchased a large picture from the thrift shop, removed the picture and glass, and painted the frame white. I did not sand it because I wanted to keep some of the brown underneath to give it a vintage, worn look.

Step 2. While the frame dried I created the props by free handing Christmas images on construction paper and then I cut them out. If you want a cleaner look you can find Christmas images on google and trace them. I enjoy drawing and I am not a perfectionist so I free hand mostly everything.

Step 3: I have tons of washi tape; glitter washi tape, patterned washi tape, neon washi tape, you name it, I probably have it. I used the washi tape to add patterns and designs to some of the props.

Step 4: Tape the images to the sticks.

Step 5: Lastly, I decided to use ribbon to add hanging ornaments to the frame. You can hang them any way you'd like. I just strung mine across. I also added a bow I had lying around. I had purchased it at the dollar store a few weeks back. I think it gave it a nice finish.

The Games

The games were a blast. We played holiday charades, Battle of the Santa's, and Heads Up, a new game that incorporates charades and technology. It was a lot of fun!

Each team was given a large piece of read paper, and tape and they had five minutes to dress their Santa. The team who had the best Santa won. This was Hilarious!!!

The DJ

DJ ValaSoul played all the latest hits and even threw in a couple of classic R&B Christmas songs for us. He kept the mood light and the party flowing. His system was impeccable with all the latest technology! I'd recommend him any day of the week!

This party was an overall success. Hope you enjoyed the read. Happy Holidays to you and see you next time :)

Size Overrated's One Year Celebration #sizeoverrated #corporateevent #eventplanning

What if I told you that there was this amazing magazine that you could view on your mobile device, PC, or in print...a magazine that illuminated beauty in every form, every shape, every ethnicity...a magazine that portrayed every day people like you and I, who are impacting the world and the local community in a very positive way? I have two words for you...Size Overrated.

I met Ariel, the CEO of S.O. Magazine back in August when I was at the time hosting a poetry night in Hampton. She came out to support one of her magazine contributors who was reciting poetry that night. When she told me about her magazine I was immediately intrigued. I could only imagine the courage it took her to take such an amazing yet unheard of concept, and turn it into something real, something tangible, something BIG!

When Ariel asked me to coordinate her one year celebration I was elated. It would be my first corporate event, and it would be for someone amazing, passionate, and devoted to their dream. I couldn't ask for more in a client. From budgeting, to décor, to entertainment, Ariel was a joy to work with. Her event turned out to be phenomenal!

We used plastic margarita cups as centerpieces adorned with clear plastic diamonds, synthetic flowers, and t lights. They made classy, tasteful, budget friendly centerpieces. For our guest we decided on Smore Favors for a cozy autumn feel. We created a business networking scavenger hunt as entertainment for our guest, but the conversation was so electric and overflowing that we didn't even get around to the scavenger hunt. So many wonderful personalities and businesses were present at this event, that there was really no need for outside entertainment other than the Jazz music we had playing softly in the background.

The patio at Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant in Hampton was the perfect location. The intimate seating arrangement was perfect for our close knit group and gave it sort of a family feel. At the end of the night Ariel cut the double chocolate cake and we sang Happy Birthday (the Stevie Wonder version of course) to Size Overrated Magazine. I'm so glad that I got to meet Ariel and bring the vision of her one year celebration to life! We had an absolute blast and I cannot wait until next year!

Celebrate the Youth: A Theater Themed Birthday Party

Around this time last year I begin volunteering at two of the Boys and Girls clubs located in downtown Newport News. Its was something I had been wanting to do for quite some time, but recently being separated from the military at the time, I could finally make time for it. At first it took the kids a minute to warm up to me, but once I began bringing arts and craft projects and occasional snacks...well it was pretty much cake from there....literally.

When I started my business in Jan 2014, I didn't know I would be so extremely busy in the months to come. I suddenly didn't have so much time to devote to volunteering at the club. But I still wanted to make an impact on the kids and give back. So I decided to start the Celebrate the Youth (CTY) program. Through this program I provide free of charge group birthday parties once a month to the Boys and Girls club members age 6-10. The teens usually help me set up and facilitate the parties, and  in exchange they get first dibs at whatever is left over after the young kids eat.

The parties are always a success and a lot of fun. I was so excited to kick off the school year with this months theater themed birthday celebration. I had a lot of fun creating the display and the props and the kids absolutely loved it!

A wedding planner I used to intern with taught me that PCB pipes are great for pipe and drape. So I headed to home depot and after 30 min of them looking at me like I was crazy and trying to figure out what the heck I was trying to make, we got it right!

I used the PCB pipes to act as a movie curtain. The actual curtains were purchased from Target.

I found this amazing party hat diy at http://ohhappyday.com/2011/02/party-hats-diy-template/ and added popcorn kernels using my glue gun.

I'm not a huge fan of soda, but these mini Pepsi cans were just too cute and perfect for a theater themed party!

You can't have a movie themed party without lots of snacks!

We had a fabulous time at this theater themed birthday. The Celebrate the Youth program has huge goals for the 2014-15 school year, but we need your help! Visit gofundme.com/celebratetheyouth to learn more and to donate. A minimum $2 donation puts you in the drawing to win a free
Silence is Acceptance Love Life T-Shirt!

Thanks for viewing! See you next week!
